Agreement signed with Green Cargo AB regarding sensors on vehicles
Railway Metrics and Dynamics AB has signed a collaboration and cooperation agreement with Green Cargo AB within the framework of the Swedish Transport Administration’s innovation initiative “Mätning av Anläggning från Järnvägsfordon”.
Railway Metrics and Dynamics is a procured supplier to the Swedish Transport Administration in an innovation project where the goal is to create a continuous facility monitoring of the Swedish railway. The procurement – “Innovation procurement – Regarding further development, validation and delivery of new information services for automated measurement of the railway facility” – consists of three stages where stage two was activated in the autumn of 2023. If all Trafikverket’s requirements are met during the project, the order value is approximately SEK 25 million over a three-year period.
It is gratifying news and a major step towards continuous monitoring of the Swedish railway that Green Cargo – Sweden’s largest freight operator – is now on the monitoring train.

Yet another collaboration agreement
Under the contract with Trafikverket, Railway Metrics and Dynamics will recruit and instrument vehicle owners, traffic organisers and/or railway companies. The agreement with Green Cargo means that Railway Metrics and Dynamics has entered into another collaboration agreement, in addition to the agreements previously signed with for example Tåg i Bergslagen.

“Together with the Swedish Transport Administration and Railway Metrics and Dynamics, we can jointly create conditions and improve the railway. The entire chain must work together so that we and the entire industry get better punctuality and more reliable deliveries to our customers”, says Camilla Bergdahl, Vehicle Manager at Green Cargo.
Measuring the interaction between vehicles and infrastructure
Railway Metrics and Dynamics will equip a number of Green Cargo’s trains with sensors called Performance Monitoring Units (PMU). These units send information to the Swedish Transport Administration’s data exchange platform (DUP). Railway Metrics and Dynamics then analyses and reports deviations and trends in the infrastructure, for example via the company’s proprietary interface called Dashboard.
There is no compensation between Railway Metrics and Dynamics and Green Cargo until the end of phase two. However, the Swedish Transport Administration encourages the parties to develop and demonstrate vehicle-related benefits and efficiency improvements in the railway system within the framework of the agreement. With a separate agreement, compensation can thus also be regulated between Railway Metrics and Dynamics and Green Cargo.
“Since we measure the interaction between vehicles and infrastructure, we approach the analysis of a railway system in the true sense of the word – a system consisting of both vehicles and infrastructure. Through our technology, there is also the possibility for Green Cargo to gain detailed knowledge of their vehicles, which can, for example, streamline vehicle maintenance”, says Jan Lindqvist.
