New government assignment to the Swedish Transport Administration is solved with Swedish innovative technology
“The Swedish rail network must be improved”, says Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlsson. Last week, the government therefore gave the Swedish Transport Administration a new assignment to improve railway maintenance. The Minister mentioned the possibility of using data from moving trains – a solution developed by Swedish Railway Metrics and Dynamics.

According to the Government, railway maintenance needs to be more efficient to make the railways more robust and the trains more punctual. Therefore, the Government has now given a new assignment to the Swedish Transport Administration, which means, among other things, that the authority must report how they increase their knowledge of the railway. At the press conference where Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson (KD) presented the assignment, the minister highlighted Swedish companies that enable preventive maintenance.
“By using data from moving trains, you can get information about when maintenance is needed,” said Andreas Carlson in an interview with SVT Rapport after the press conference. This is exactly what the Swedish company Railway Metrics and Dynamics, which is a contracted supplier to the Swedish Transport Administration for innovations in the measurement of the railway system from railway vehicles, is doing.
By entering into agreements with various vehicle owners who operate trains on the Swedish railways, Railway Metrics and Dynamics can place its patented sensors on trains, which in turn collect data on the health of the Swedish railways for the Swedish Transport Administration. This data provides a detailed knowledge of the health of the Swedish railways, which in turn makes it possible to implement preventive maintenance at the right time, before a failure occurs.

“With technology from Railway Metrics and Dynamics, it is possible to achieve what the Government is now asking for. We have already come a long way in this work in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration,” says Jan Lindqvist, CEO of Railway Metrics and Dynamics.
